Faculty can be granted editorial rights and are encouraged to collaborate with Librarians in creating guides for their courses.

Need to charge your phone or tablet while on campus? We have charging stations at both library locations. The charging stations have charge ports for both Android and Apple devices. Just plug in and charge up!

*Library staff are NOT responsible for watching patrons’ personal items. 

  • All patrons must present their library card or HCTC issued ID badge.  (See Registration for a Library Card below)
  • There are no overdue fines.
  • Limit of two due date renewals for all item types.
  • Any items returned damaged or that become LOST will be charged for the replacement cost of the item, plus a $4 replacement fee.
    (Good condition, used copies of items will be accepted in lieu of replacement fees.)

HCTC students, faculty and staff can see a list of their currently charged items and ask for one online renewal (before items become overdue) by signing into their patron accounts in Primo.

Books (Stacks, Oversize, KY/Appalachian)

Students: Limit 10 for four weeks. All items are due on the last day of classes before final exams.* 

*If not returned at end of the semester, a library hold will be placed on their college account and they will not be able to register for classes or receive a transcript until the matter is resolved.

Faculty/Staff: Limit 10 for entire semester. They are due on the last day of classes before final exams.

Community: Limit 3 for two weeks.

Graphic Novels & Paperbacks

All Patrons: Limit 3 for two weeks.

Magazines

Current issues of magazines cannot be checked out, but articles may be copied.  See Copying/Printing/Scanning for more info.

Older magazine issues may be signed out at the circulation desk. Checkout for all patrons is limited to one week. (Stephens Library only)

Audiovisual Checkout

Audiovisual aids such Audiobooks, DVDs, VHS, and more are available. 

Audiobooks are also available in Cassette and Compact Disc formats. All patrons can check these items out for two weeks.

VHS/DVDs checkouts by faculty for all Videos/DVDs is limited to one week. They cannot be checked out by students and community but can be viewed in the library. 

Students, in addition to accessing online library resources, may use library computers to do their homework, online class work and access college email. They must have their HCTC username and password to log on to a computer. 

Community patrons may use computers for a time-limited basis. Please show photo ID at the circulation desk to receive a temporary user log-in account.

All KCTCS computer-use policies apply. 

Patrons need to bring a USB flash drive with them to save their work. 

Free Wi-Fi is available in HCTC Libraries for students and guests to connect to the internet.  Just log on to the 'KCTCS-STUDENT-GUEST' network with your personal device.

HCTC Libraries have coin-operated black-and-white photocopiers. Copies are 10¢ per page, except 11x17 copies cost 20¢ per page. The copiers accept coins and have a dollar bill changer. The libraries cannot make change.

All HCTC and UCM students receive 500 pages in FREE printing each semester. To add additional pages, students can purchase a Printer Top Up Card at their campus Business Office

Community patrons have very limited printing capabilities. Please discuss your printing needs with library staff at the beginning of your visit.

Patrons can scan documents into PDF form to be sent electronically via email. See library staff for assistance with this function.

Fax services are available. Please ask for assistance at the circulation desk.

If you are taking all your courses completely online or if you work remotely, you are eligible to request residential delivery of physical HCTC library items. Please visit the Off Campus Delivery page to learn how to utilize this service.

The embedded librarian is a service designed to support online, web-enhanced, or hybrid students by providing access to library services and resources through Blackboard. For more information on adding an embedded librarian to your course, please contact Evelyn Hudson (ext. 73147).

Equipment available include laptops, laptop projectors, overhead projectors, screens, easels, cassette/CD players, microfilm/fiche readers and more. Equipment is limited in quantity and has a limited-time checkout. 

Note that faculty/staff who reserve equipment are responsible for scheduling use in advance, picking it up, setting it up and returning the equipment to the library.

To reserve the Lees College Campus Library classroom or the Stephens Library Computer Lab and Conference Room for class use, contact Dee Dee Wells at ext. 73145.

Students, Faculty and Staff can come to the Stephens Library or Lees College Campus Library to obtain a photo ID badge. 

These IDs can also be used in place of registering for a library card and are required for Allied Health program clinicals.

Students may ask for one-on-one or small group (5 or fewer people) instructional sessions. Please try to request a session at least one week in advance of the requested date/time.

Faculty may use the Instructional Session Request form to request library instructional sessions and library tours for their classes.

Use the Recommend a Book or Other Resource form to request specific resources to be added to the library’s collections.

All patrons are registered and issued a free library card. Your library card must be presented each time you check out books. No card, no checkout.  

To apply for a card, you must provide your name, KCTCS ID number, mailing address and phone number. Community patrons must present a valid photo ID.

Replacement cards cost $3.

WARNING CONCERNING COPYRIGHT RESTRICTION
The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials. Under certain conditions specified by the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for or later uses a photocopy or reproductions for purposed in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copyright order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
