Winners announced for Spooky Story Contest

HCTC announces the three winners for the Spooky Story Contest. First place went to L.A. Richie for her story Beautiful Screams ; second place to Travis Stidham for his Other Monsters and third place to Taylor Harbin for Knowing Emily.

This contest received entries from India, the Netherlands, Louisville, and Leslie County just to give you an idea of the range, noted HCTC Professor Scott Lucero who organized the contest.

L.A. Richie was born in Perry County. She is a major basketball fan and supports Commodores, UK Wildcats, and A.B. Combs Bearcats. She is 13 years old and in the seventh grade. She is currently attending A.B. Combs middle school and enjoys hanging out with her friends, writing, and spending time with her family.

Travis Stidham is an HCTC graduate with plans to obtain a Master of Fine Arts degree. He hopes to become a successful writer one day. Stidham plans on teaching English and Creative Writing at the college level somewhere around the area.

Taylor Harbin is a Civil Engineering major attending the University of Louisville and a former HCTC student. She loves to write.

The prizes awarded were: First Prize: $75, publication in Kudzu, HCTC s literary magazine; Second Prize: $50, publication in Kudzu; Third Prize: publication in Kudzu.

Radio personality and author Sam Neace served as this year s judge. His latest novel, Sugarland Melting, is a necromancy thriller, published by Black Wyrm Publishing.
