UK CERH joins University Center of the Mountains

The University Center of the Mountains (UCM) welcomes a new partner, the University of Kentucky s Center of Excellence in Rural Health (UK CERH). The University Center of the Mountains (UCM) is pleased to welcome a new partner, the University of Kentucky s Center of Excellence in Rural Health (UK CERH). The addition of this new partner brings two new bachelor s degrees, a new master s degree and a new doctorate degree to the list of programs offered through the UCM partnership. Medical Laboratory Sciences and Social Work bachelor s degrees are available in addition to the Master of Social Work and Doctor of Physical Therapy. UK CERH s College of Health Sciences Student Services Director LeeAnn Helton and the College of Social Work s Jessica A. Williamson, Student Affairs Officer II, will keep an office in the UCM on the Hazard Campus of Hazard Community and Technical College (HCTC) on Ky. 15, in addition to their offices at the UK CERH site.

Having our UK CERH partners available to students in the UCM provides ease of access for community college students who are considering pursing their bachelor s degree in social work or in a health sciences area, observed Dr. Deronda Mobelini, UCM Director. It will also enhance communication between community college advisors and the new four-year partner in order to provide transfer bound students with the best information possible to guide them in the pursuit of higher education.

We are excited to announce the new partnership between the UK CERH and the UCM. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to work together for the benefit of our students and community, said Fran Feltner, director of the UK CERH.

HCTC President Dr. Steve Greiner said he was delighted that UK CERH has joined the UCM. This new partnership allows for more local students to be served. A quality education is the goal for our students and UK s Center for Excellence will help make that goal even more achievable, he said.

The UCM is a higher education center located in 152 of the Jolly Classroom Building on the campus of Hazard Community and Technical College. Eastern Kentuckians can take bachelor and graduate degree classes on the HCTC campus through the UCM partners. In addition, UCM student services provide transfer advising/planning, career planning and financial aid planning along with admissions application assistance, proctoring services, tutoring assistance, study space, computer access and additional programs that support our transfer students such as Graduate Record Exam (GRE) Prep workshops or PRAXIS exam workshops.
