Right career, right education choice made by Mallie Barnett

Mallie BarnettMallie Barnett thought her calling was to be a doctor but she s convinced her role at Mountain Comprehensive Health Corporation at the Owsley County Medical Clinic as a Medical Technologist is her destiny, and she is enjoying her career.

After graduating from Hazard Community and Technical College in May 2014 she was accepted into the Medical Laboratory Sciences program through the University of Kentucky s College of Health Sciences where she earned a bachelor s degree in science.

This occupation has challenged me, built my character, and brought me so much joy. My heart is overwhelmed and my mind is still trying to grasp reality. If you took me back five years ago to that anxious little girl preparing herself for her first day of college and told me a lab rat is what I will become, I honestly wouldn t believe you. Nonetheless, look where I am and I wouldn t have it any other way, she said.

She is pleased with her career path, and she also is happy she chose HCTC. Not only did I receive a top-notch education, I was more than prepared to later transfer and succeed at a university. I have developed a long list of lifelong friends just by attending HCTC. I hold this school dear to my heart with the utmost respect. I built a foundation for a wonderful career; I completed my whole college career debt free mainly through aid and scholarships that I received for attending HCTC, Ms. Barnett noted.

She has high praise for HCTC faculty. Each and every faculty member I associated with was beyond respectful and were inspiring characters, noted the 2011 Jackson City High School graduate.

Mallie is the daughter of Estill and Patty Barnett.
