Nursing success story: Krista Hampton

Krista Hampton, age 26, knew at age five she wanted to be a nurse. Now she is a Clinical Nurse Manager in the Telemetry Step Down Unit at Hazard ARH. She is a 2011 graduate of Hazard Community and Technical College with an associate degree and she is pleased with the decision she made in her education and career.

Once graduating and entering the work force I felt confident in my nursing knowledge, Mrs. Hampton said. She would recommend others attend HCTC. I believe in staying close to home if possible to get an education. I loved the fact that I could get a great education in the field I have dreamed about and now I am able to take care of my community, she said, adding her praise for the HCTC faculty. The instructors always offered extra help and went above and beyond their nursing instructor duties, she said.

I get much satisfaction in knowing I am taking care of those in my community. I love working at a hospital that was created to take care of coal miners and their families, which many in our community call their livelihood. I take pride in my educational and career choice. There's no place I'd rather be doing what I love! she said.

Her future plans include working toward a bachelor s degree.

Krista lives in Hindman with her husband, Stephen and their daughter, Addison age 15 months. Krista is a 2008 Hazard High School graduate.
