HCTC's Leslie County Center now has a Media and Information Commons (MIC), which is
an extension of HCTC Libraries. The MIC provides access to computers, books, CD s,
DVD s, magazines, and professional librarian assistance with course assignments. Students,
faculty, and staff can check out items as they would at Stephens Library or Lees College
Library. They can also make use of college equipment, which includes iPods, headphones,
a digital video camera, portable DVD player, a portable turntable, and laptops. The
MIC will soon house and care for an authoritative collection of bluegrass vinyl records
for the Kentucky School of Bluegrass and Traditional Music. This is the first semester
for the MIC, which will be open Monday and Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. HCTC is still
in the process of building this new collection. Students, faculty, and staff at the
Leslie County Center should feel free to make suggestions for collection development,
noted Robert Campbell, of HCTC s Extended Campus Library Services.
