Lexington resident benefits from HCTC online education in Health Information Technology

Donna RoccaDonna Rocca worked at Toyota Motor Manufacturing in Georgetown for more than 19 years. Although this gave her great stability she felt she wanted to do something more. So, I took a leap of faith and enrolled at Hazard Community and Technical College to begin my new career path, she said. While she was out of school for many years and caring for her young son, she was uncertain if she would be able to complete her journey. After much dedication and perseverance, graduation finally came. That day was one of the proudest days of my life. HCTC gave me the foundation I needed to begin my new life. I will be forever grateful, she said.

Ms. Rocca graduated in May with an Associate in Applied Science degree in Health Information Technology with certificates for Release of Information Data and Medical Records Coding. She graduated with Honors and High Distinction.

As a Lexington resident, she took all of her classes online. I cannot be more satisfied with my time at HCTC. From the very beginning my professors were there to support and encourage me every step of the way. Never once did I feel as though I was alone in my journey. Stephanie Vergne who is the Health Information Program Coordinator made sure that I was on track to become a successful student. This process was a challenge for me, but with all of the resources provided to me I was able to make it to the finish line, she said.

Mrs. Vergne noted, We have awesome students. After being in a nationally accredited program that serves the entire United States, I have learned that HCTC provides top-notch education and online does not hinder the relationships we create with our students. I love for students to be able to know their efforts to reach their goal is certainly noticed.

Ms. Rocca would recommend HCTC to others. My experience was very rewarding. I take pride in the education that has been given to me and have great faith in all that HCTC stands for. It is an honor to have graduated from such a great institution.

Ms. Rocca chose HCTC because of the degree offered. My program of study is one of few offered in the state of Kentucky completely on-line and also holding accreditation through a professional organization.
Since graduating, she has accepted a position with Baptist Health as a coding support.
