Kena D. Mullins named KCTCS New Horizons Support Staff Excellence award nominee

Kena MullinsDependable, dedicated, professional, and motivated are a few of the words used to describe Kena D. Mullins, who is being honored by Hazard Community and Technical College with the KCTCS New Horizons Support Staff Excellence award. Ms. Mullins, who has been with HCTC for 17 years, is a Senior Administrative Assistant. She is HCTC's nominee for the statewide award.

Her work involves building a schedule each semester so that students can meet their educational goals and achieve their dreams. She works with faculty and administration to create the best schedule possible.

Kena not only provides support to Academic Services, she is crucial to facilities in assisting with scheduling of all rooms at the Lees College Campus of HCTC.

HCTC Interim President Dr. Juston Pate said he appreciates Kena s cooperative spirit and her ability to get so many things done in a day. Her abilities and professionalism are top-notch. We re glad to have Kena on our team.

Ms. Mullins is a leader in the community as well. She is active in the local Relay for Life event, serving as the HCTC Team Captain. She coordinates fundraising and participates in the annual walk.

I like working at HCTC because of the family atmosphere that we have. I feel like I work with some of the best people in the world, she said.

HCTC has been a vital part of Kena s life. She is a 1998 HCTC graduate with an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Business Technology: Office Systems and a 1996 graduate of Breathitt County High School.

Kena and Craig Mullins reside in Jackson with their 12-year-old daughter Keesha DeShae Mullins. Kena enjoys watching her daughter play softball and volleyball. She also loves spending time with her parents.
