Jackson Womans Club supports new Intergenerational Building at Lees

The Jackson Woman s Club voted unanimously to donate $1,000 to the Build Smart campaign currently underway at Hazard Community and Technical College in support of the proposed Intergenerational Center to be built on the Lees College Campus in Jackson. The check presentation was made by Susan Harley, JWC President and Dr. Pat Herald, JWC Treasurer to HCTC President Steve Greiner. Susan Harley noted that the JWC prides itself on its involvement with significant community service projects and opportunities to improve the lives of others. We could not think of a better investment than trying to help ensure that future generations of students in our area will have a wonderful new facility in which to learn and grow! The Woman s Club voted April 6 on the donation.

As a leading civic organization, the Jackson Woman s Club was one of the first community groups Dr. Greiner approached to talk about the new campus building and the local funding that must first be in place to ensure that the IGB becomes a reality. When he was later informed of the planned donation, Dr. Greiner noted, This show of support so early in our campaign is simply fabulous; I hope other community organizations and civic groups will be equally generous!

The new 28,500 square foot facility, commonly referred to as the IGB, will be the first new building erected on the Lees College Campus in over 50 years. Containing the latest state-of-the-art technology and housing much needed classrooms, offices, and student support spaces, the facility will provide a new front door for the campus revitalizing and enhancing the higher education opportunities available. Of equal significance is the fact that the new IGB will house a 370 seat Convocation Hall, complete with videoconferencing and a catering kitchen, which will be able to host conferences, workshops, commencements, performing arts events, and a variety of other community events such as banquets, wedding receptions, and proms.
