HCTCs Janet Hurley is new Accelerating Opportunity coordinator

Janet HurleyJanet Hurley, who has worked for HCTC for 27 years, is looking forward to her role as the new coordinator of the Accelerating Opportunity grant at Hazard Community and Technical College. I want to help students develop a stronger feeling of net worth and see them fulfill their career goals, she said.

Accelerating Opportunity, which began at HCTC in August 2013, offers opportunities in four Career Paths Welding, Nurse Aid, Collision Repair, and Phlebotomy. Classes are taught using a Team Teaching approach with an instructor in each Career Path and an Adult Education Instructor.

This program was designed to help students get their GED and at the same time complete a certificate program. It is a collaborative effort among HCTC, the local Kentucky Adult Education program, the local investment board, and Kentucky Career Centers. Ms. Hurley will be recruiting students into the program and serve as their Success Coach until they complete their Career Path. HCTC expects to see an increase in enrollment through Ms. Hurley s efforts.

Janet will continue in her role as Continuing Education Coordinator and Workforce Training. She will still coordinate Pharmacy Technician, CPR and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training. She will continue to coordinate Community Education and cultural enrichment classes.

Dr. Jennifer Lindon, Occupational Technologies and Workforce Solutions Dean, welcomes Janet in her new role as Accelerating Opportunity Coordinator. She brings with her many years of experience working with the community and will be an excellent advocate for students, Dr. Lindon said.

Ms. Hurley has a bachelor s degree in Business Administration from Morehead State University and resides in Chavies in Perry County.
