knife created by studentsHazard Community and Technical College and Berea College have entered into a partnership with the Kentucky School of Craft regarding the production of knives created by HCTC students.

Michael Flynn, Program Coordinator of the Associate in Fine Art Program, said, I am proud to see this idea become a reality. This project showcases the field of Art, Craft and Design and how collaborations can strengthen the impact of a project. The design is based off a French chef s knife pattern with a hint of Appalachia, he said.

This knife is similar in size and shape that Daniel Boone might have carried with him crossing the mountains, entering Kentucky from Virginia, said Danny Estep, Instructional Specialist of Metals at the Kentucky School of Craft. Dan has been making blades since the early 1980s and feels this project is allowing him to pass on this knowledge to the next generation--the students working on the project.
