HCTC named Best Places to Work in Kentucky 2011

For the second year in a row, HCTC was named as one of the Best Places to Work in Kentucky 2011. The awards program was created in 2005 and is a project of the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, Kentucky SHRM Council and Best Companies Group.

HCTC President Steve Greiner noted, It no surprise to me at all that HCTC is receiving this honor again. As I came here for the interview, I was impressed at every turn about this progressive college and I continue to value the dedication Hazard Community and Technical College employees have toward seeing students succeed.

This statewide survey and awards program was designed to identify, recognize and honor the best places of employment in Kentucky, benefiting the state's economy, its workforce and businesses. The Best Places to Work in Kentucky 2011 list is made up of 65 companies. HCTC has been named one of those 65 Best Places to Work in Kentucky.

To be considered for participation, companies had to fulfill the following eligibility requirements: have at least 25 employees working in Kentucky; be a for-profit or not-for-profit business or government entity; be a publicly or privately held business; have a facility in the state of Kentucky; and must be in business a minimum of one year.

Companies from across the state entered the two-part process to determine the Best Places to Work in Kentucky. The first part consisted of evaluating each nominated company's workplace policies, practices, and demographics. This part of the process was worth approximately 25% of the total evaluation. The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. This part of the process was worth approximately 75% of the total evaluation. The combined scores determined the top companies and the final ranking. Best Companies Group managed the overall registration and survey process in Kentucky and also analyzed the data and used their expertise to determine the final rankings.

Tony Back, HCTC Coordinator of the Computer Aided Drafting and Surveying program, said he loves the HCTC working environment. If there s something I need for my classes, I get it. The College really wants what is best for students. He also praised the school for being progressive. We re not just thinking about the needs of today, we re working towards the needs five years from now, Back said.

Missy Guier, campus assistant at the Leslie County Center, agrees that HCTC is a great place to work. I feel very appreciated for my contributions, she said. She also praised her colleagues. We all want what is best for the students. I can remember how daunting enrolling in college can be and we all work to help students through the process.

Both employees praised the technology available to them, the facilities in which they work, and the overall atmosphere of HCTC.

HCTC will be recognized and honored at the Best Places to Work in Kentucky 7th Annual Awards Dinner on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at the Lexington Convention Center. The final rankings will be announced at the event.
