Food City is assisting Hazard Community and Technical College to revitalize their
Diesel Technology Program with a new focus on medium to heavy truck diesel engine
repair. In the past, HCTC has been focused on heavy equipment repair and is excited
to be moving in this new direction, which will also include courses offered to students
who want to earn their Class A CDL. Hazard Community and Technical College received
the generous donation of a Thermo King refrigerator unit and a 2010 Volvo tractor
from Food City. The tractor and unit will be utilized in the program's curriculum
so that students can gain experience working with these particular types of units.
HCTC worked with Michael Tate, the Transportation Manager with Food City, in Abingdon,
Virginia to secure the donation. HCTC would also like to thank the Hazard, Kentucky
Food City Manager, Rockey Tickle.
HCTC President Dr. Steve Greiner said he was very appreciative of the gift and the interest Food City has in education. We greatly appreciate businesses, such as Food City, for investing back in their community. Many students will benefit from these donations as they utilize hands-on learning.
Food City is pleased to be working with HCTC and hopes its donation will assist them in acquiring top-notch diesel technicians and truck drivers from HCTC's technical programs. Participating in the donation event were: Food City Assistant Manager Billy Burgett, Instructional Specialist for Diesel Technology Jeffery Stidham, Diesel Technology Associate Professor Jimmy Caudill, Food City Store Manager Rockey Tickle and HCTC Occupational Technologies Dean Dr. Jennifer Lindon.
