
HCTC celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. with breakfast on Jan. 20
Martin Luther King Jr. Day will be celebrated on Monday, Jan. 20 at Hazard Community
and Technical College in the First Federal Center at 10 a.m. The public is invited
to the event that will include guest speaker Dr. Rana Johnson, Kentucky Council on
Postsecondary Education s first Chief Diversity Officer. She previously served as
an Associate for Equal Education Opportunities, as well as Senior Associate. Prior
to her tenure at CPE, she served as a research and teaching assistant at the University
of Kentucky and Eastern New Mexico University.
The deadline to register for the breakfast is Thursday, Jan. 16. Contact Kendra Turner

The audience will learn from Dr. Johnson who assisted with the implementation of the
Kentucky Plan, as well as the Partnership Agreement with the U.S. Department of Education,
Office for Civil Rights from 1999-2008.
Dr. Johnson received a bachelor s degree from Spalding University in Mass Communication, a master s degree from Eastern New Mexico University in Speech Communication, and a doctoral degree from the University of Kentucky in Intercultural and Interpersonal Communication.
After the Monday program, a Martin Luther King Jr. March will begin at HCTC, ending at Consolidated Baptist Church.
