HCTC celebrates Black History Month with guest speaker

ML King event speaker - afternoon eventBlack History Month will be celebrated on Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 10 a.m. at Hazard Community and Technical College at the First Federal Center. The public is invited to hear guest speaker Dr. Roger Cleveland, as an assistant professor at Eastern Kentucky University. Cleveland was the Director of the Division of Federal Programs and Instructional Equity at Kentucky Department of Education. Dr. Cleveland will speak on unity in the community and collective responsibility.

In 2010 Dr. Cleveland was nominated for the Kentucky Human Rights Commission Hall of Fame and also nominated for The Golden Apple Award at EKU. In the Spring of 2012, Cleveland received the Professor of the Year Award sponsored by the Kentucky Association of Blacks in Higher Education and was recognized as Teachers Making A Difference at EKU. Governor Beshear appointed Dr. Cleveland to the State School Curriculum, Assessment and Accountability Council. He is also the president and owner of Millennium Learning Concepts Consulting Company.

Dr. Cleveland received his bachelor s degree at Morehead State University, his master s degree at Union College and completed his doctoral work at The University of Cincinnati.
