Franklin Stu Fugate hired to head up auxiliary services

Hazard Community and Technical College welcomes Stu Fugate as the new director of Auxiliary Services/Evening Director.

Fugate brings 30 years of supervision and leadership experience to the job. Fugate noted, I have supervised many different types and sizes of teams. In those experiences I have learned that communication and visibility are key elements in bringing together an efficient and productive team.

HCTC provided training for Fugate; he graduated with an Associate s degree in 2003. As a former student it is very nice to be back here, this time as an employee. He recognizes the College for the significant impact it has, not only on the traditional student, but the non-traditional students and most recently our displaced workers.

Fugate s role as Evening Director at the Hazard Campus will provide a presence in the evening hours. As part of our overall commitment to safety I plan to be visible and available to employees, students and community members in the evening hours for any needs, questions or concerns that may arise. Many prior roles provide Fugate with a strong background in safety and security. In my roles in both manufacturing and coal I have been responsible for safety training and implementation of safety policies and procedures, he noted.

In his role with Auxiliary Services, Fugate said he plans to re-introduce HCTC facilities and all that the college has to offer in the areas of catering and events to the community. I have always thought that we have beautiful campuses. I think it is exceptionally nice that we have facilities that our community can utilize for any size function or event. Just in my first few weeks here I have watched the transformation of our rooms in the First Federal Center go from a meeting space for 200+ to a stunning setting for a weekend wedding. To have such a graceful backdrop for a multitude of events is a great plus to have in this community.

Fugate s work history began while he was in high school, working for a small local grocer. After high school he spent 15 years with Adena/Diamond May starting out in the parts department and then working into the role of purchasing agent. He started at Trus Joist in the first few months of their start up, working his way up to Timberstrand Manufacturing Manager. He has spent the last ten years working in or for the coal industry, both as warehouse manager and with an electrical supplier. He began employment here with us at Hazard Community amp; Technical College on July 16.

Stu is a graduate of MC Napier High School, Hazard Vocational School and Hazard Community and Technical College. He has one son, Stuart, and two grandchildren, Kameron and Kaydence.
