Focus on Faculty: HCTCs Stamper receives doctorate degree from UK

Students in the HCTC Physical Therapist Assistant Regional Program have the benefit of learning from Dawn Stamper, who has a doctorate degree from UK.

Students will benefit from Dr. Stamper s advanced education by receiving up-to-date information and by learning how to become evidence-based practitioners. In this way students learn how to search for and implement the most current treatments within the field of Physical Therapy and continually update their own knowledge base throughout their careers, Dr. Stamper said.

I pursued getting my Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree to increase my knowledge base of the most current evaluation tools, treatments and trends within the physical therapy profession so that I could pass that knowledge to my students in the PTA Regional Program, she noted.

Students also have the benefit of Dr. Stamper s professional work prior to her joining the faculty in January 2009. She worked for eleven years for Appalachian Regional Healthcare, five years as a self-employed contractor with First Steps and five years with Healthcare Therapy Services. And, she holds a bachelor s degree from UK in Health Sciences.

HCTC President Dr. Steve Greiner praised Dr. Stamper for her dedication to the PTA program and the motivation of enhancing student success by obtaining the degree.

Dr. Stamper lives in Knott County with husband Darren Stamper, daughter Reagan Stamper, a student at Perry County Central and son Ryan Stamper, who attends Robinson Elementary. Her parents are William and Nancy Weddington of Morgan County and her in-laws are Wiley B. and Betty Stamper of Knott County.
