Dr. Richard E. Holl published

Rich HollDr. Richard E. Holl s book Committed to Victory: the Kentucky Home Front during World War II was recently published. Holl, who teaches history at Hazard Community and Technical College, will be discussing his work at a reading and book signing on Tuesday, November 10, at 1:30 p.m. at the Lees College Campus Library in Jackson, Kentucky. The public is invited to attend.

Holl s book offers a comprehensive look at Kentucky during the World War II era. War production, changes in the American work force, and the hardships endured by those at home are highlighted in the work. Committed to Victory is part of the series, Topics in Kentucky History, published by the University Press of Kentucky. State Historian of Kentucky James C. Klotter is the series editor. He noted that Committed to Victory is well researched; this work places a fresh emphasis on many issues, including the environment, labor relations, and the wartime economy.

Holl noted the book was the culmination of many years of research and writing. The impetus for the book began with the publication of A New History of Kentucky in 1997. Lowell H. Harrison and James C. Klotter, joint authors of the work, concluded a full study of the Kentucky home front remains much needed. Holl took on the challenge conducting extensive archival research and interviews throughout the state.

Dr. Holl, has previously published From the Boardroom to the War Room: America s Corporate Liberals and FDR s Preparedness Program, and when asked to comment on the new release, noted that Committed to Victory is the first book ever written on what went on inside Kentucky during the Second World War and it ought to stimulate additional work on that subject and others related to 20th and 21st century Kentucky.

Please make plans to attend this author event on November 10 at 1:30 p.m. at the Lees College Campus Library.
