Dr. Currie Honored with HCTC Faculty Award

HCTC Associate Professor of Biology and Chemistry Dr. Paul Currie is the John Brown Outstanding Faculty Award Recipient for 2012.

HCTC Provost and Vice President of Academic Services Dr. R. Kathy Smoot presented the honor during graduation, saying This award is presented to a member of the faculty who this year best represents the ideals and values most highly regarded by the HCTC faculty. Those ideals and values include professionalism, collegiality, student orientation, dedication, positive attitude, vigor and creativity.

This award is the second honor Dr. Currie has received this spring. He was elected by his peers to be the chair of the faculty. A prior major honor occurred in 2009 when he was named the HCTC s New Horizon Outstanding Faculty member.

HCTC President Dr. Steve Greiner noted, Dr. Currie strives to help students succeed and he encourages them to go after the bigger dream. He is an excellent professor.

Besides his excellence in the classroom, Dr. Currie has served as Distance Learning Coordinator and enrollment in those classes increased significantly. He also serves as the faculty representative on the HCTC Board of Directors.

As part of his professional development, Dr. Currie visited the Galpagos Islands, Ecuador during the summer of 2010 and upon returning shared his experiences with the college and community.

Dr. Currie holds a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Georgia, as well as bachelor s degrees in biology and chemistry from Saint Andrews Presbyterian College in North Carolina. He has studied abroad at James Cook University of North Queensland in Australia, in Mochima Bay in Venezuela, and Antarctica.
