Breeding named HCTC New Horizons winner

Quiet and unassuming, Teresa Breeding s demeanor belies the strength of her strong foundation and influence as one of the keystones at Hazard Community and Technical College. For many years, Teresa has been the person people turn to when no one else knew what to do. Locked your keys in the car, call Teresa Breeding. Lost your new prescription glasses, call Teresa. Student Services is the perfect place for Teresa because putting students first is foremost to her. That desire for the student to have the best college experience possible is one reason HCTC named Teresa Breeding as the New Horizons Staff Award of Excellence recipient. Mrs. Breeding is the Tier II Lead with the KCTCS Service Center and is part of the HCTC Student Service unit at the College. She will be honored at a statewide conference later this month.

HCTC President Dr. Steve Greiner knows how vital Mrs. Breeding is to serving students and he appreciates that dedication. The complexity of her position requires her to have proficient knowledge of all the areas of student services. That task alone is daunting. However, Teresa is very proficient in that role, he said.

Germaine Shaffer, Vice President of Student Services, praised Mrs. Breeding because she consistently puts students needs first, and every issue is framed around the best way to help the student.

Mrs. Breeding began working for HCTC 23 years ago. She first came to the College as a student, and she has always worked in Student Services, including Records, Veteran s Services, Financial Aid, and Minority Affairs. Recognizing her developing skill sets in the overall administration of Student Services, she was promoted to Senior Administrative Assistant for the Vice President of Student Services and served in that role for 10 years. She continued to broaden her knowledge and job skills leading to her promotion as the Lead Student Services Officer of the 24/7/365 Call Center assisting KCTCS and Blackboard .

She has a passion for assisting students and watching them obtain their educational goals, noted Ms. Shaffer. Mrs. Breeding especially enjoys graduation each year, because it serves as the crowning event for all the effort provided not only by her, but all at the college. She looks forward to many more years serving students in the area and being part of their future and that of their families.

Besides her HCTC associate degree, she earned a bachelor s degree by attending Morehead State University, going through the University Center of the Mountains in Hazard soon after it was established. She graduated with her Bachelor of University Studies degree in 2010.

Teresa resides in Knott County and has been married to her husband Bill Breeding for 32 years. They have two daughters, Rebecca and Christina Breeding, who also attended HCTC. In her spare time, Teresa loves camping, fishing and enjoying the outdoors. She is the proud grandparent of Reagan, who she is already preparing for college.
