Bart Massey honored with New Horizon award

Bart Massey has been named recipient of the New Horizons Outstanding Professional Staff award for 2012 because of his work in streamlining a process for employees to be served by the Technology Department. With more than 260 employees at HCTC and six campus locations in four counties, there are a large number of technology needs. Massey developed a system, integrating IPADS and wireless IP telephones and other mobile devices for the technicians to use, where employees can be served quickly and efficiently through a Help Desk which he coordinates. The success of his work is obvious because the number of hours to fulfill a request is greatly decreased.

Massey noted, I am a strong advocate of goal setting and following through. When I began the reorganization effort in my office I focused on a quote my father instilled in my beliefs. An hour of thought saves hours of work. I believe in efficiency and know how important it is to keep the customer happy through quality service, quick and thorough action and professional results. This happens through the recognition of assets and faults, planning, implementation, with commitment and consistency to see the actions through.

HCTC President Dr. Steve Greiner noted, Under Bart s direction, the Help Desk Process has increased the satisfaction of employees and students as they can now receive a timely response to their technology needs.
Donna Roark, Chief Information Officer, praised Bart for his forward thinking and use of innovative technologies to ensure customer service.

Anna Napier, Academic Dean, said Massey has brought knowledge and expertise that has allowed for expansion and improved services to faculty and students. It is clear that he researches and participates in professional development activities that are pertinent to student needs and that he strives to ensure that HCTC has state-of-the-art equipment.

Massey first joined HCTC in 2003 as Web Master and was promoted to Information Technology Manager in 2008. Prior to that, he worked at what is now Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College in Cumberland for two years. For seven years, he was President/CEO of AmeriNet Computers Inc. in Somerset which provided computer service, sales, and delivery. For two years, he was President/CEO of Computer First in Somerset and he co-owned Wayne s World of Tobacco in Freeport, Bahamas.

He is completing a master s degree and holds a bachelor s degree from Morehead State University and an associate degree from Somerset Community College.

Bart is the proud father of Evan and Thomas Massey. The family lives in Hazard.
