Ann Cornett retires from HCTC

Hazard Community and Technical College says farewell to Ann Cornett who has been working in the HCTC Grill for the last 15 years. Ann has chopped enough tomatoes to fill many gardens and peeled hundreds of potatoes for weddings, receptions, college lunches, and other special events. Now the only cooking she plans to do is for her family.

Ann s lasagna and broccoli casserole are two dishes that have been great hits with students and employees. I love cooking better than anything, she said. And I love the people. They are just like family to me.

The large number of events in the HCTC First Federal Center made the job interesting for Ann. She truly enjoyed seeing people dressed up for the receptions, parties, and other special events. I loved seeing all the joy of people when they are with their families and their friends. I always wanted every event to be perfect for them.

Feeding others is a family tradition. Ann s parents, the late Dorothy Pankey and Alfred Pankey, used to sell gingerbread that they made together with proceeds going to their church.

Stu Fugate, Safety, Auxiliary, Facilities amp; Evening Programs, noted he will miss Ann very much, as will Sherry Bettinazzi and Mary Pennington. Ann has been a very important part of Facilities and has been the rock for grill services. She will be missed greatly and we wish her all the very best, Fugate said.

According to HCTC President Dr. Steve Greiner, Ann was helpful and friendly to all customers at the college and he appreciated her years of dedicated service. We hope Ann enjoys her retirement and we thank her for her commitment to excellence, he said.

Prior to joining HCTC, Ann was employed at Hazard City Schools as a cook, working at Walkertown, Roy G. Eversole, and Hazard High School for 11 years.

Ann has two sons Dr. Hershel Caywood, a nursing home administrator in Florida; and Donald Lee Caywood, with the State Highway Department. Their father died of leukemia. She is now married to George Cornett of Hazard, who has worked at Peoples Bank and Trust for 32 years.

During her retirement, she will be taking care of the couple s nephews, 13-year-old twins.
