Americas Music: Latin Rhythms from Mambo to Hip Hop

America's MusicThe final program in the series America s Music: A Film History of Our Popular Music from Blues to Bluegrass to Broadway will be held Thursday, November 21, at 6 p.m. at the Kentucky School of Bluegrass and Traditional Music in Hyden.

This screening will feature Latin Rhythms from Mambo to Hip Hop. Films excerpts highlighted in this program will include Latin Music USA- Bridges and From Mambo to Hip-Hop: A South Bronx Tale. Previous film screenings have traced America s musical heritage from its religious roots through Rock.

Professor Ron Reed, program scholar for the series, will lead the discussion on the impact of this blend of musical styles on contemporary culture.

Hazard Community and Technical College and HCTC Libraries were awarded a grant to host this series from the National Endowment for the Humanities: Exploring the Human Endeavor. America s Music is a project by the Tribeca Film Institute in collaboration with the American Library Association, Tribeca Flashpoint, and the Society for American Music.
