Two major gifts totaling $70,000 in value were announced today for Hazard Community and Technical College (HCTC) during a Regional Meeting of American Association of Community Colleges (AACC), East Kentucky Concentrated Employment Program (EKCEP) and HCTC.

Two major gifts totaling $70,000 in value were announced today for Hazard Community and Technical College (HCTC) during a Regional Meeting of American Association of Community Colleges (AACC), East Kentucky Concentrated Employment Program (EKCEP) and HCTC.

HCTC students will benefit from XanEdu s donation of 100 digital content tablets to be used in the classroom. The $60,000 gift was announced today by Dave Garza of XanEdu and Earl Gohl, Federal Co-Chair of the Appalachian Regional Commission.

We re leveraging technology to be less of a hurdle for students, Garza said. HCTC President Dr. Steve Greiner noted, We are excited about this partnership because not only will the course information be loaded onto tablets, but students will be able to have supplemental materials available such as videos to enhance learning.

Gohl said the ARC wants to partner with community colleges to promote Shaping Our Appalachian Region (SOAR). Garza of XanEdu said HCTC was chosen because of HCTC s involvement with the AACC. We are very excited to be partnering with the ARC initiative here at HCTC to bring innovation learning solutions to the classroom. These are solutions that are going to be much less expensive than traditional textbooks and are going to provide a more engaging and innovative way for students to learn, Garza said.

Also today, Lincoln Electric based in Cleveland, Ohio announced $10,000 worth of equipment for the Welding Program. Tony Back, Occupational Technologies Division Chair, noted, This donation of a specialized welder enhances and changes the welding program as well as adding a whole new career opportunity for students to be successful in the welding industry.

We couldn t be happier to receive these donations, noted Dr. Greiner. We are very appreciative to Lincoln Electric and to XanEdu for their generous gifts.
