NPR's From The Top Matinee Assembly Performance
Based in Boston, From the Top is an independent non-profit organization that celebrates the power of music in the hands of extraordinary young people. As a preeminent showcase for young musicians, From the Top shines the light on diverse young people ages 8 to 18 by sharing their stories and performances, providing scholarships, and engaging them as leaders in national broadcasts, live concerts, and outreach events across the country.
NPR s From the Top matinee assembly performance will be Monday, March 23 at 1 p.m. in The Forum at the Hal Rogers Center. Admission is $3 per student. This is for grade four and up. The public also can attend the show and admission is only $3.
From the Top is best known for its weekly radio show distributed by NPR and heard by up to 700,000 listeners on nearly 250 stations across the country. But From the Top is more than a radio show. From the Top performers share their passion and talents beyond the concert hall visiting schools and community centers to positively impact the lives of others. This assembly performance, planned with the performing arts series and area schools, features From the Top alumni musicians. The performance is designed as an interactive experience to inspire and engage the audience and build their interest in and deeper appreciation of classical music. Local talent is always celebrated at these events alongside the From the Top musicians.
From The Top has selected via an online audition process the following talented students from our region to be featured in this performance: Jordan Amburgey, (piano) Knott County Central HS; Dalton Bates, (saxophone sextet) Letcher County Central HS; Sarah McCoart (voice) Johnson Central HS.
