HCTC continues to grow with new initiatives and improvements

A paved parking lot is just one of the improvement projects at HCTC.

HCTC continues to enhance college facilities for campus and community use. The college is working on renovating the Jolly Classroom Center Auditorium. The auditorium will be able to hold a capacity of 100 people and allow high-tech training to be utilized by business and education groups in the community.

An additional grant will make it possible for construction of a prototype house at the Technical Campus which will serve as a futuristic training center for students to learn emerging technologies. Students enrolled in programs such as Heating and Air Conditioning, Electricity, and Drafting will have access to the house and be provided with hands-on training.

Also, HCTC has a newly renovated Telford Center at the Lees College Campus where a 3-D multimedia program is gearing up. Faculty member Jeremiah Bryant coordinates the program which provides students the skills necessary to prepare and produce multimedia presentations, websites, animations, and audio/video presentations.

We are very appreciative to the Appalachian Regional Commission for funding several of these initiatives, noted HCTC President Dr. Steve Greiner.

A recently completed project was the paving of the gravel lot in the area behind the Jolly Classroom Center, near the University Center of the Mountains entrance. This project increased the size of the current paved parking lot and provided several much needed parking spaces.

After months of fitness equipment research, a new Wellness Center has been established on the Hazard Campus. Faculty, staff and students are utilizing the new fitness equipment located in room 121 of the Jolly Classroom Center on the Hazard Campus. The importance of wellness and maintaining a healthy lifestyle are recognized by the college and all faculty, staff and students are encouraged to take advantage of this new facility.

Dr. Greiner said he is proud of the honors awarded to the college, including being the first college in Kentucky to receive the ACT College and Career Readiness Career Preparedness Award, receiving the Aspen award for being a top community college in the nation, and being named a Best Place to Work in Kentucky twice. I am very proud of the college. I am fortunate to have an incredible group of employees who are very dedicated and committed to their discipline, program, and student success. Our employees have many years of continued service and that speaks volumes on what a great place this is to work.
