HCTC attracting veterans
U.S. Army veteran Dickie Lee Abner of Jackson said one of the best decisions he ever made was to utilize his GI Bill and enroll at Hazard Community and Technical College. At age 33, he is enjoying his classes and he wants to improve life for himself and his two children.
Abner served in the army from July 1997 until January of 2006 and was working at the Pentagon on September 11, 2001 during the terrorist attack. He said this was an experience he has put behind him and looking forward to his future.
Coming back to school was a bit intimidating to him at first, but he was pleased to see students his own age and older taking classes. It s been a great experience for me. I think more critically now.
Abner said he would recommend any veteran to enroll. They are very military friendly here, he said, noting, If you don t use that GI Bill you lose it, so others should definitely enroll.
