Hallie Bowling retires from HCTC

Putting students first has always been priority No. 1 for Hallie Bowling but now in her retirement, she is changing her focus to family.

Hallie has served as the HCTC Director of Accessibility Services. She has had several other roles since becoming a full-time employee in July 1993, including: Testing Center Coordinator, Student Services Generalist for Leslie County Center, VLI Student Services Specialist Tier II for system, Director of Admissions, Assistant Director of Enrollment Services, Campus Director for Leslie County Center, and Staff Associate I in Admissions.

I love working with the students and being a part of the HCTC family, Mrs. Bowling said. My focus has always been on our students. When I graduated from HCTC in May 1993 and was offered a full time job, I saw it as an opportunity to give to others students the opportunity that had been given to me. HCTC changed my life and I wanted to share my experience with others, she said.

I have loved working at HCTC for the past 22 years and have been fortunate to spend all of that time within the Student Services unit. I have made friendships at HCTC and memories that I will cherish forever. HCTC has truly changed my life for the better and I will never forget the time that I spent here and the students that I have had the pleasure to serve, she said.

Germaine Shaffer, Vice President of Student Services, said, In the many years I have worked with Hallie, I have always known her to be committed to what is best to the student. She values her own education and she worked to make it possible for others to achieve that milestone in their lives.

Mrs. Bowling always kept a copy of former UK Chancellor Ben Carr s speech on her wall to remind her that the student is the most important person on campus and she was here because they were here. They (students) have always challenged me to be on top of my game in knowing how to help them. I consider HCTC my extended family and will miss everyone here, especially when it is time for registration, she said.

Her education includes three associate degrees from HCTC (associate in arts, associate in applied science in office administration, and associate in applied science in Business Management), a bachelor s degree in Business Administration, and a master s degree in Business Administration from Morehead State University. She is a 1978 graduate of Leslie County High School.

Hallie and her husband of 38 years, Billy, live in Hyden. They have three daughters and ten grandchildren.
