At the 63rd annual Hazard Perry County Civic Night, Hazard Community and Technical
College s Board of Directors named Dr. Mitchell Wicker, Jr. as the recipient of the
2015 Distinguished Service Award. The award is the highest honor presented by the
Board and is given to members of the community who made outstanding contributions
to Hazard Community and Technical College, the Community, and Education.
Pat Wooton, Chairman of the HCTC Board of Directors, presented the award, praising
Dr. Wicker for his participation and leadership in community and economic development
and recognizing his extraordinary achievements in improving the quality of life and
creating educational opportunities for Southeastern Kentuckians. He has provided unending
support of the programs, faculty, staff, administration and students of the college.
He is honored especially for his support of HCTC by way of his influence, advocacy,
philanthropy and leadership. Also noting that he serves as an active member of the
Hazard Independent College Foundation, Performing Arts Advisory Committee, Board of
Trustees Care and Quality Member at ARH, Perry County Medical Association, KY Medical
Association, KMA Managed Care Committee, Patient Care Committee at ARH, and the Board
of Trustees Care and Quality Member at Hazard ARH. He also serves as Vice Chief of
Staff and the Chair of the Medical Staff Wellness Committee at Hazard ARH.
HCTC President Dr. Steve Greiner noted, We are very appreciative of Dr. Wicker s
long-time service to the College and the community and his generosity. Dr. Wicker
understands the needs students have in paying college tuition and he created a scholarship
in honor of his son. We are fortunate to have a friend who values education.
Dr. Wicker believes so much in giving back and encourages his staff at the Hazard
Clinic to participate in many community fundraising events in the area throughout
the year. Through his leadership, Christmas for Charity Inc. and Cheer For Life have
been established, both of which are dedicated to giving back to the people of our
region. Thousands of dollars have been distributed to numerous local causes and efforts
since the inception of both.
Dr. Wicker is the Medical Director and President at Hazard Clinic and has served the
medical needs of his community since 1981.
