Ann Carter believes that young people need to determine their life career, and she has been helping students do just that as they enter Hazard Community and Technical College. After 27 years of service to HCTC, she is retiring from HCTC but will continue to reach out to young people.
I encouraged students to set goals and asked them to think about what talents they have and to base their future on that. Everyone has a talent, and if they focus on that and follow their dreams, they will be very successful. Nothing comes easy, but if you have the desire and a good work ethic, you can accomplish any goal that you ve set for yourself, she said.
Interim Provost /Vice President of Academic and Student Services Germaine Shaffer noted, Ann has done a great job at HCTC. She consistently reaches out to students, wherever they may be, and helps them begin the path to achieving their dreams. There are countless numbers of students Ann has helped throughout the years. Ann has a great heart for the students. She always advocates for them and truly cares about the people she meets.
Ann began working at Lees College in 1989 and continued working at that campus following the merger with HCTC in 1996, working in the Admissions Office the entire time. What I liked best about my job was having the opportunity to help students work toward their future and achieve their goals. I have also enjoyed working with my co-workers, as I consider many of them like family. I value the people I work with at the educational institutions in the surrounding area, especially in my hometown of Jackson, noted the Breathitt County High School graduate.
As she reflects on her last days this month, she said, It has been an amazing journey and I have met some wonderful people during my stay; I will treasure my time here. Although I will no longer be working at HCTC, I will always consider the people I worked with through the years as friends, and in some cases, family. I want to thank everyone who has made the last 27 years some of the best of my life, especially my husband, son, brother and family, and parents. May God bless you all with a wonderful future, and know that I will never forget our times together.
Ann is married to Jeff Carter. Her son is Ty.
