Tammy Duff named UCM director

Published on Jul 2, 2024

Tammy Duff, director of the University Center of the Mountains, took her post on July 1. Duff plans to support students at Hazard Community & Technical College as they prepare to transfer to four-year partner institutions. Hazard Community & Technical College (HCTC) recently named Tammy Duff as director of the University Center of the Mountains (UCM).

Duff began working at then-Hazard Community College in 1990 as performing arts director. She has spent the past several years of her career as an admissions advisor and recruiter, allowing her to assist students with embarking on their academic journeys in pursuit of certificates, diplomas and degrees.

Since September 2021, Duff has served additional part-time duties as UCM co-director and acting director over the past year. During this time, Duff coordinated UCM and transfer events, became acquainted with faculty and staff at four-year partner institutions and developed a deeper understanding of the transfer process.

"After 34 years at the college, I am excited to be able to focus full-time on the UCM and students’ access to furthering their education. My professional experience as co-director and personal experience as a UCM alum give me a unique perspective and understanding of the center," she said. "I am committed to leveraging this insight to foster an environment that supports student success and academic advancement."

Duff holds a bachelor's degree in theatre with a minor in broadcast communications from Eastern Kentucky University and a master's degree in adult and higher education from Morehead State University.

“I feel very blessed. HCTC has provided me the opportunity to work in many different roles and I’ve learned so much in each one of them. I feel this new full-time role will be no different as HCTC continues to grow and expand transfer opportunities in higher education for this region,” Duff said. “It feels like a great place to land at this point in my HCTC career.”

The UCM facility opened for bachelor’s and master’s degree course meetings on the HCTC campus in Hazard in 2004. Since then, the partnership and offerings have expanded to include select doctoral programs. To learn more about the center, visit the University Center of the Mountains webpage.
