HCTC’s registered nursing programs earn national accreditation

Hazard Community & Technical College (HCTC) recently received notice that its registered nursing programs have earned American Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) accreditation.
The U.S. Department of Education recognizes ACEN as an accrediting body. It is one of the largest specialized accrediting agencies, accrediting nursing programs throughout the United States, its territories and internationally.
"This accreditation was a group effort that involved all of our faculty and leadership. It involved lots of data collection, including exam pass rates, job placement," Christina Martin, program coordinator for nursing, said. "This accreditation opens so many doors for our college and its students."
HCTC's nursing offerings include both licensed practical nursing (LPN) and registered nursing (RN) options. The LPN program lasts as little as 12 months, and the RN program lasts 24.
Both options can be achieved debt-free as students are eligible for the Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship, which provides free tuition for students pursuing education in advanced manufacturing, business and information technologies, construction, healthcare and transportation and logistics industries.
HCTC guarantees one free year of tuition for any first-time college student as part of its HCTC Promise Scholarship.
"I always share with potential students during their pre-admission conferences that you can't find a program this affordable anywhere else," Martin continued. "Our faculty members are located here on campus so they can provide on-site support for students. We want to do everything we can to ensure our students succeed."
HCTC leaders expressed their appreciation for the nursing program's diligence in this process.
"At HCTC, we dedicate ourselves to preparing graduates who are equipped with the skills necessary for successful careers. This accreditation is an example of our commitment to continually improving our instructional practices," Dr. Jennifer Lindon, HCTC president and chief executive officer, said. "I am incredibly grateful to the leaders and learners who worked to make this a reality for our students, including those past, present and future."
