Well-known influencers visit HCTC, offer 3D printing masterclass

Hazard Community and Technical College (HCTC) hosted renowned manufacturing engineering technology (MET) social media influencers Daniel Curry (@ctk_Creations) and Frank Pillar (@Frankly_Built) for a public event on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at the Lees College Campus.
The event, Education That Influences Tomorrow's Workforce, consisted of two masterclasses
focused on 3D printing. Lees College, Inc. sponsored the event to bring awareness
to opportunities in the greater Jackson area.
The first session began at 10:00 a.m. and focused on the wide range of products made through 3D printing. The second session, which started at 2:00 p.m., focused on designing without limits. Both sessions included opportunities to interact with the influencers and learn about possibilities in the MET field.
The influencers invited participants to engage actively in the program. Approximately 70 attendees represented a wide range of people, ranging in skill level from amateur to seasoned. Local high school students and those completing courses at other Kentucky Community & Technical College System institutions were among the students in attendance.
Prior to the event, Curry and Pillar spent two days with students in HCTC's MET and Computer Aided Drafting and Design/Surveying and Mapping Technology (CADD) programs, which prepares students for careers in advanced manufacturing, industrial engineering and technology. Students gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge, sophisticated technology.
"This visit has given our students a unique experience. Danny and Frank have shown them some of the career avenues they can go down. From aerospace engineering to selling 3D-printed models, the opportunities are endless," Associate Professor Gary Smith, MET program coordinator, said. "We prepare graduates to design and create using the same industry-standard software and equipment they’ll work with in the field."
Curry and Pillar are experts, having collaborated with Marvel, HBO Max, social media executives and more. The two each have a large social media presence, gaining followers for content focused on their 3D printing.
