Why you should choose HCTC’s Medical Information Technology (MIT) program
Hazard Community and Technical College’s (HCTC) MIT program prepares its students for medical records and reporting, maintaining paper and electronic files and working with medical insurance and coding.
The MIT program’s instructors both worked in healthcare settings and are able to use
real-world experience in their teachings.
“Our courses are all online which makes it easier for those who work and have families
to balance their schedules without having a set date or time to be on campus; however,
we are still available for those that need to come in person and ask questions,” said
Associate Professor Charmoin Holliday.

Once students graduate, they can find jobs as a receptionist, office manager, healthcare
administrator, or a position within a medical records department or billing and coding.
“Our AAS degrees can be completed in 2 years or can be quicker for those that may
have some requirements already completed,” Holliday said. “We have 3 MIT tracks that
students can choose from. These are Medical Administrative, Medical Coding and Medical
Office Management,” she added.
Students can also complete five certificates in just one semester. Those certificates
are Medical Unit Coordinator, Medical Coding, Hospital Admissions Specialist, Medical
Receptionist and Electronic Health Record Specialist.
