HCTC Nursing Success Story: Matt Cornett

Matt Cornett Matt Cornett graduated from Hazard Community and Technical College (HCTC) with an associate degree in nursing in May of 2023. After graduating, he began working at Hazard ARH as a registered nurse.

“HCTC did help to prepare me for my career,” Cornett said. “All of the instructors, counselors and other staff members were always willing to help in any way that they could,” he added.

Cornett said he chose to attend HCTC because the college is close to home, and his tuition was affordable. He also recommends HCTC to anyone who wants to become a nurse.

“One major thing, besides our education, that my fellow classmates and I learned was how to work hard for what we wanted, and how to come together to help each other to achieve the same goal,” he said.

He is continuing his education at Northern Kentucky University where he plans to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

“You can achieve any and all of your goals with a little hard work,” he stated. “You may want to give up, you may want to cry, but just take a moment to breathe and then keep going until you achieve what you want to achieve. You got this,” he added.
