The Steele-Reese Foundation establishes a $50,000 endowed scholarship at Hazard Community and Technical College

Hazard Community and Technical College (HCTC) is pleased to announce the creation of The Steele-Reese Foundation Endowed Scholarship at HCTC.

This scholarship is allocated to students who are enrolled in high-need, construction-related technology programs.

“Eastern Kentucky is in need of high-quality workers to build homes and infrastructure across our region,” said HCTC President Dr. Jennifer Lindon. “HCTC is committed to producing the best students the construction industry has seen, and with the help from The Steele-Reese Foundation, we feel we will achieve that goal,” she added.

The Steele-Reese Foundation is a charitable trust committed to supporting rural communities and the tax-exempt entities that serve them in Idaho, Montana, and in the Native nations with whom the Foundation shares this geography, and in Appalachian Kentucky. Since its inception, the Foundation has maintained a focus on the unique challenges of rural living and on helping people build healthy, successful, and sustainable communities.

Eleanor Steele Reese created The Steele-Reese Foundation in 1955. The Foundation’s name honors Eleanor’s family as well as the family of her husband, Emmet Reese, who grew up in the East Bernstadt community of Laurel County.

“These scholarships will allow our students enrolled in construction-related courses to not worry about how they will pay for college,” said Carla Seals, Dean of Institutional Advancement. “Our students can focus on working towards graduation and into a high-demand, high-paying career,” she added.

HCTC is working with the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) to have the scholarship matched.
