Warm Hearts Open Hands: Delivering Hope to Appalachia This Winter. HCTC in Collaboration With Roscoe's Daughter

Hurricane Helene Relief List

Hazard Community & Technical College (HCTC) is partnering with Roscoe's Daughter Inc on a flood relief campaign to help those impacted by Hurricane Helene throughout the Appalachian regions of North Carolina and Tennessee.

Roscoe's Daughter Inc is a non-profit organization registered with the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Its mission is to meet the unmet needs of Appalachia. Roscoe's Daughter Inc organized a region-wide Hurricane Helene relief effort across five counties in southeastern Kentucky.

HCTC has teamed up with the organization because of a shared commitment to serving others. The organization has a network of community partners throughout the regions impacted by Hurricane Helene. The transportation hub is located in Perry at the HCTC Hazard Campus. The college's commercial driver licensing program and its instructors will help with this effort.

HCTC has a semi-truck ready to be filled, and the college is asking for donations to help it fill it. To assist with this effort, one may purchase items from the Hurricane Helene Relief Amazon wishlist organized by Roscoe's Daughter Inc.

The list focuses on critical items, including those to assist with upcoming winter weather and the projected long-term water shortage due to widespread infrastructure damage.

"In 2022, when our communities experienced flooding of unparalleled magnitudes, rescue and relief teams from east Tennessee and northwest North Carolina did not hesitate to offer their support," Dr. Jennifer Lindon, HCTC president and chief executive officer, said. "Their collaboration then and our collaboration now are reminders that we are stronger when we work together. As Appalachians, we know the importance of caring for our neighbors and loving them in their times of need."

"Roscoe's Daughter Inc was founded in response to the catastrophic 2022 Eastern Kentucky flood to meet the unmet needs of Appalachia," Kate Clemons, chief executive officer and founder, said. "Communities in our region came together. We worked across county lines. Now, we're ready to hit the ground running and take our lessons to our brothers and sisters in neighboring Appalachian states."
