MLK Community Breakfast

Hazard Community and Technical College would like to invite the community to attend their annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. breakfast on Monday, January 15th, in the First Federal Center on our Hazard Campus. The doors will open at 8:30 and breakfast will begin at 9.

The theme for the event is the same as the Dr. King Center’s: “Take the First Step in Faith: You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.” The Community Children's Choir will be performing, and Keynote Speaker will be Kenya Abraham, Co-founder of SLAK Market Farm.

Keynote Speaker: Kenya Abraham

Kenya Abraham is the Co-founder of SLAK Market Farm located in Lexington, Kentucky, producing signature raw milk and halal meat products. She is first a wife and mother of 6 beautiful kids. The Abrahams have been on a farm for 6 years. Kenya has a strong dedication to use their farm as a place for serving the well-being of not only her family, but the community that they have built through relationship-farming.

She also operates Stack A Story Bookshop, a nonprofit bringing kids into agriculture through Writing Workshops, Family Farm Stays and Barnyard Expos. Kenya is a trained certified organic inspector for crop and livestock productionthrough the International Organic Inspectors Organization (IOIA), and she worked as a farmer liaison for Equity in Agriculture, building relationships and working to push beyond the issues and limitations of systematic racism and bottle necks affecting small family farmers. In 2020, Kenya was awarded the Small Farmer of the Year Award from Kentucky State University and the Emerging Leader Award from the Community Farm Alliance.
