Learn By Term

Learn by Term encompasses our more traditional online offerings with 16-week, 12-week, and 8-week schedules. Many students complete affordable online degree, certificate, and diploma programs, offered through the Learn by Term distance learning model. While these offerings are primarily offered online, some require exams and lab activities which may require on-site visits at an approved location. The instructor will provide course specific information in their syllabus and on the course website.

Learn by Term is an alternative for many students who cannot attend classes on campus due to scheduling conflicts, childcare, work or other commitments, but it is not for everyone.

Learn by Term courses require a computer with consistent Internet access and utilization of a KCTCS email address. In addition, online learning requires a certain amount of computer savvy. Learners should know basic word processing, how to send and receive e-mail, and how to add attachments. Additionally, Learn by Term classes require communication with faculty and other students (via KCTCS e-mail, discussion groups, or chat); taking online exams (some may require proctored exams); and submitting various assignments via attachments or using an assignment dropbox within the course.
