ACT Prep Class

If you are a high school student scheduled to take the ACT Test this fall, let HCTC help prepare you!  ACT Prep can help boost your scores!  Subject and dates are listed below.  The cost of each session is $10.  To register or for more information contact Janet Hurley at 606-487-3068.

Technical Campus

ICD-10 Training - Coming Soon!

Are you ready for the October 1, 2015, implementation of ICD-10? Do you need CEUs to meet certification requirements? We can help! HCTC is offering AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association) approved training Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. June 18 - July 9.  Cost of the course is $175 plus the cost of books (approximately $200).  Students will receive 1 college credit hour plus 14 AHIMA CEUs (prior approval by AAPC is pending).  Training will be held in Room 109 of the Devert Owens Building.  For more information or to register contact Myla Barrett at 606-487-3065.

Kentucky Coal Academy

Hazard Community & Technical College is part of the Kentucky Coal Academy.  HCTC offers the following mine-related training both on and off the worksite: 

  • Initial MET training
  • Initial electrical training
  • Initial underground and surface training
  • Initial blasters training
  • MET retraining
  • Electrical retraining
  • Underground and surface retraining
  • Blasters retraining
  • Hydraulic training on basic and advanced hydraulics trainers
  • Electrical training on Joy and DBT electrical panels
  • Allen Bradley PLC training on electrical panels
  • Associate Degree in Mining Technology with Mine Maintenance Certificate Available with $650 per semester scholarships for students

The majority of training is available to companies and interested individuals. Contact Jesse Campbell at (606) 487-3392 for more information or to sign your employees up for training.  Funding is available and you can obtain your training at little or no cost. 

Surface/Underground Initial and Retraining Mine Classes

Surface and underground initial and retraining classes are offered monthly in the evenings at the Technical Campus of HCTC.  Vance Arnold is instructor.   Contact Jesse Campbell for more information at (606) 487-3392

OSHA 10 and 30 hour (General Industry)

HVAC, Electrical, or Plumbing Training

6-Hour Master Electrician        9/10/15 4-10 p.m.; 11/12/15 4-10 p.m.  Cost is $60

6-Hour Electrical Contractor    9/3/15 4-10 p.m.; 11/5/15 4-10 p.m. Cost is $60

8-Hour HVAC                        10/17/15 8 a.m.-4 p.m.; Cost is $80

8-Hour Plumbing                   9/19/15 8 a.m.-4 p.m.; 11/7/15 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Cost is $80

Electrical and HVAC Testing Available through HCTC Testing Center

CPR Certification Fall Schedule

CPR Certification will be offered at the Hazard Technical Campus this fall from 5:00-9:00 p.m. on the dates listed below. The cost of the class is $56 which includes the book and certification card. Basketweaving

Beginning to intermediate level basket weaving classes are taught monthly every month at the Hazard Technical campus. Cost varies depending on the basket for the month. Contact Janet Hurley at (606) 487-3068 to register. Pre-registration is required in order for the instructor to bring the appropriate materials. Instructor is Francis Whitaker.

Learn the Basics of Microsoft Excel

If you struggle with formulas, charts or tables, then this class is just for you!  Join instructor Keila Miller as she takes students through creating spreadsheets for personal budgets, company employee listings, sorting, filtering, and creating charts.  For more information contact Keila Miller at (606) 487-3287.

Kids Dance

We will be accepting students this fall for ballet and tap dance.  The instructors are Ginger and Haylee Combs.  Classes will begin September 8 and run through December 15 weekly.  The cost of the class is $10/week and monthly fee is due the first session of each month.  For more information, contact Janet Hurley at (606) 487-3068.

Piano Lessons

Instructor Kay Crowe will be accepting new this fall.  Lessons will be 30 minutes in length and given Mondays through Fridays from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the Hazard Technical Campus.  Cost of the lessons will be $40 per month, a flat fee that is not based on attendance.  For more information, contact Janet Hurley at (606) 487-3068.

From Tree To Finish

Join Master Woodworker Terry Ratliff at the Kentucky School of Craft this fall for an introduction to greenwood and edge tools.  This workshop fits both a beginner and advanced woodworker.  Workshops will be held each Wednesday beginning September 2-30 from 5-8 p.m.  The cost of each session is $15.  For more information or to register, contact Terry Ratliff at 487-3440.
