Adult Spring Ceramic Workshop

Join Artist Emily Nickel as she demonstrates how to create a lily pad and frog that can be functional as well as a beautiful artistic piece.  Workshop will be held on April 23 at the Perry County Public Library beginning at 5 p.m.  Workshop is free to the public but enrollment is limited to 20 participants so advanced registration is required.  For more information or to register, contact Keila Miller at 487-3287.

Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Mapping at HCTC

Please join Hazard Community and Technical College (HCTC) and JCTC’s Small Business & Entrepreneurship Center (SBEC) in an event that will assist local entrepreneurs and agencies identify and map small business resources in the HCTC serving area (Knott, Leslie, Breathitt, Wolfe, Owsley and Perry counties).  The map will include small business resources such as service providers, education and training options, financial resources, networking events, business incubators, etc.

The goal is to create a map of resources that can be shared throughout the community, and to identify any gaps in services that are needed in the area.  The event will be held in the HCTC First Federal Center in Room 123 D on April 29, 2014 from 9 AM to Noon.  We would love to have each of you there to help us understand any and all business activities taking place in your community.

Technical Campus

Kentucky Coal Academy

Hazard Community & Technical College is part of the Kentucky Coal Academy.  HCTC offers the following mine-related training both on and off the worksite: 

  • Initial MET training
  • Initial electrical training
  • Initial underground and surface training
  • Initial blasters training
  • MET retraining
  • Electrical retraining
  • Underground and surface retraining
  • Blasters retraining
  • Hydraulic training on basic and advanced hydraulics trainers
  • Electrical training on Joy and DBT electrical panels
  • Allen Bradley PLC training on electrical panels
  • Associate Degree in Mining Technology with Mine Maintenance Certificate Available with $650 per semester scholarships for students

Surface/Underground Initial and Retraining Mine Classes

CPR Certification Spring Schedule

CPR Certification will be offered at the Hazard Technical Campus, Room 102 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. on the following dates. The cost of the class is $56 which includes the book and certification card. Quickbooks

HCTC in partnership with Southeast KY CTC and the Small Business Development Center are offering an introductory Quickbooks class on the Hazard Technical Campus in Room 109 of the Devert Owens Building on April 26 beginning at 9 AM and running till 4 PM. Cost is $125 per person and pre-payment is required. Contact Myla Barrett at 606-487-3065. 

Basketweaving

Beginning to intermediate level basket weaving classes are taught monthly every month at the Hazard Technical campus. Cost varies depending on the basket for the month. Contact Myla Barrett at (606) 487-3065 to register. Pre-registration is required in order for the instructor to bring the appropriate materials. Instructor is Francis Whitaker.

Learn the Basics of Microsoft Excel

If you struggle with formulas, charts or tables, then this class is just for you!  Join instructor Keila Miller as she takes students through creating spreadsheets for personal budgets, company employee listings, sorting, filtering, and creating charts.  For more information contact Keila Miller at 606-487-3287.

Kids Dance

We will be accepting students this spring for ballet and tap dance.  The instructors are Ginger and Haylee Combs.  The cost of the class is $10/week and monthly fee is due the first session of each month.  For more information, contact Janet Hurley at 487-3068.

Piano Lessons

Instructor Kay Crowe will be accepting new this spring.  Lessons will be 30 minutes in length and given Mondays through Fridays from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the Hazard Technical Campus.  Cost of the lessons will be $40 per month, a flat fee that is not based on attendance.  For more information, contact Janet Hurley at 487-3068.

Knife Making

Want to learn the lost art of knife making?  If so, join Dan Estep on April 15, 22, 29 and May 6 from 5-8 p.m. at the Kentucky School of Craft and create your own functional knife.  Cost of this workshop is $75 which must be prepaid as enrollment is limited.  For more information, contact Keila Miller at 487-3287.

From Tree to Finish - Woodworking Workshop

Join Terry Ratliff as he demonstrates an introduction to greenwood and edge tools at the Kentucky School of Craft.  Class will meet April 17, 24, May 1 and 8 from 5:30-8:30 p.m.  Cost of this workshop is $75.  For more information, contact Keila Miller at 487-3287.

Basketweaving

Join Francis Whitaker each month as she demonstrates how to make a unique basket.  April's project is an egg basket and will take place on April 21 beginning at 5 p.m at the Kentucky School of Craft.  Cost for this project is $50 and students must preregister for this course.  For more information, contact Keila Miller at 487-3287.
