36th Annual Mountain Firefighters Association Hazard Fire School

On August 23rd and 24th join HCTC along with The Kentucky Fire Commission and The Mountain Firefighters Association for annual training.  All classes are free but must be registered.  For more information on the schedule or how to register visit the website at http://www.sfrt13.com/id15.html.

Technical Campus

Basic Crime Scene

HCTC is partnering with the Institute of Police Technology and Management to offer two criminal justice workshops this fall.  Basic crime scene will orient you to locating, documenting, collecting, and/or processing physical evidence recovered from scenes of crime.  Participants will engage in hands-on training with powders and demonstrations involving fingerprint development chemistry.  Also included is presumptive testing of suspected blood at the scene and fundamental documentation of bloodstain patterns.  This course will be held October 20-22 at HCTC's Technical Campus, Multipurpose Room.  For more information or to register for this course, visit IPTM's website at www.iptm.org or email info@iptm.org.  Individuals who sign up for both this course and Basic Digital Photography for Law Enforcement Officers can receive a discount.

Basic Digital Photography for Law Enforcement Officers

HCTC is partnering with the Institute of Police Technology and Management to offer two criminal justice workshops this fall.  Basic digital photography is designed specifically for those who are currently active in digital photographic documentation of crime scenes and all other forms of photography within the scope of law enforcement.  This course will guide you through the proper use of your department-issued digital camera as well as documentation of crime scenes and specific evidence.  This course will be held October 22-24 at HCTC's Technical Campus, Multipurpose Room.  For more information or to register for this course, visit IPTM's website at www.iptm.org or email info@iptm.org.  Individuals who sign up for both this course and Basic Crime Scene can receive a discount.

Kentucky Coal Academy

Hazard Community & Technical College is part of the Kentucky Coal Academy.  HCTC offers the following mine-related training both on and off the worksite:

  • Electrical retraining
  • Underground and surface retraining
  • Blasters retraining
  • Hydraulic training on basic and advanced hydraulics trainers

  • Allen Bradley PLC training on electrical panels
  • Associate Degree in Mining Technology with Mine Maintenance Certificate Available with $650 per semester scholarships for students

The majority of training is available to companies and interested individuals. CPR Certification Fall Schedule

CPR Certification will be offered at the Hazard Technical Campus on the following dates from 5:00-9:00 p.m. this fall. The cost of the class is $56 which includes the book and certification card. Basketweaving

Beginning to intermediate level basket weaving classes are taught monthly every month at the Hazard Technical campus. Cost varies depending on the basket for the month. Learn the Basics of Microsoft Excel

If you struggle with formulas, charts or tables, then this class is just for you!  Join instructor Keila Miller as she takes students through creating spreadsheets for personal budgets, company employee listings, sorting, filtering, and creating charts.  For more information contact Keila Miller at 606-487-3287606-487-3287.

Kids Dance

We will be accepting students this fall for ballet and tap dance.  The instructors are Ginger and Haylee Combs.  The cost of the class is $10/week and monthly fee is due the first session of each month.  For more information, contact Janet Hurley at 487-3068.

Piano Lessons

Instructor Kay Crowe will be accepting new this fall.  Lessons will be 30 minutes in length and given Mondays through Fridays from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the Hazard Technical Campus.  Cost of the lessons will be $40 per month, a flat fee that is not based on attendance.  For more information, contact Janet Hurley at 487-3068.









Knott County Branch

Basketweaving

Join Francis Whitaker each month as she demonstrates how to make a unique basket.  August's project is an garbage can basket and will be 13" tall with wire handles and color.  This workshop will take place on August 25 beginning at 5 p.m at the Kentucky School of Craft.  Cost for this project is $45 and students must preregister for this course.  For more information, contact Keila Miller at 487-3287.

Frugal Living Workshop

What do you do when you only have $25 until payday and you have to feed your family?  Do you struggle to make ends meet each week?  What if you can't coupon or don't have a stock pile?  Join Jade Slone as she provides tips on how to stretch your dollars to your next paycheck.  This is not just a couponing class, but real tips on not only how to make your money last, but also how to actually save money.  Workshop will be held on Tuesday, September 30th at 5 p.m. at HCTC’s Knott County Branch, Room 212 and is free.  For more information or to register for this workshop, please contact Keila Miller at 487-3287.

Computers for Senior Citizens

If you are a senior citizen ages 50 and older that would like to learn how to use a computer so that you can communicate with family and friends or learn how to send a picture on email, then this class is for you.  We will teach you the basics of windows, how to setup an email account, how to send and receive emails and how to save your pictures.  You will also learn how to use the internet and how to setup a Facebook account.  Class will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-6 pm beginning September 9th through October 2nd at the Knott County Opportunity Center.  The instructor is Josh Slone.  The cost of this class is $35 per person.  For more information or to register, contact Keila Miller at 487-3287.

Beginning & Advanced Knife Making

Beginning and Advanced Knife Making classes will be offered at the Kentucky School of Craft beginning on Thursday, September 18 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with blacksmith Dan Estep. Classes will meet September 18, 25, October 2 and 9.  The cost of this workshop series is $75 per person. From Tree to Finish

Hazard Community and Technical College will offer a session “From Tree to Finish” with master woodworker Terry Ratliff on Thursdays beginning September 25 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Kentucky School of Craft.
