Admissions Guidelines

Ready, set, go!

If you have graduated from high school or earned a GED, you’re ready to begin.  Get started with classes now by submitting an application and some additional information.

What additional information will I need to submit?

You’ll need to provide:

  • Your official high school transcript with graduation date or GED test scores
  • Scores from a placement test such as the ACT or COMPASS
  • Official transcripts from all non-KCTCS colleges (must be mailed directly to the Office of Admissions)


Are there other requirements?

If you want to enter a technical or selective admission program, you may have additional requirements.  For more information, contact the Office of Admissions or an HCTC Admission Advisor prior to application.

Visiting Students

If you are currently enrolled at another college and intend to take a class or two at HCTC and transfer that class back to your home institution, you are considered a visiting student. Visiting students are not eligible for financial aid.

Please follow the steps below to enroll:

Step 1 - you need to complete an admission application; apply by completing the Online Application

Step 2 - you must meet any pre-requisite for class(es) you wish to take. You can check the pre-requisites for the class in the KCTCS Catalog. You can meet pre-requisites by submitting an official transcript from you home institution directly to the Admissions Office, by prior class work taken through a KCTCS school, or by submission of ACT or COMPASS scores. For more information concerning pre-requisites, please contact the Admissions Office.

Step 3 - you then register for class. Contact an advisor in the Student Resource Center for assistance.

Step 4 - You must pay any tuition and fees prior to the first day of the class. if tuition and fees are not paid in full or payment arrangements made through the Business Office, your class schedule will be cancelled for non-payment.
